My name is Anthony W. Sanderson and my mission with Atom Energy is to build a national green energy brand, from a city that was at one time a great producer of uranium for nuclear energy. My home town of Elliot Lake.
So you may better understand my mission, I will tell you about my motivation.
When I was child, every year on Earth Day my Mamere would have all us kids pass out flyers, to all the homes in Elliot Lake. Earth Day was her favorite day. At Earth Day 24 not many people knew what it was all about. But there have been people protesting about global warming, sustainability and waste reduction since 1960, The very first Earth Day. Now I organize an Annual Earth Day event at Westview Park here in Elliot Lake for the kids of the community. To try and inspire environmental awareness at an early age. For me it is in memory of my dear Grandmother, I do it in her honour. My plan is to develop a bursary program for the students of the community that demonstrate the most environmental initiative during they're schooling. This charity will also help fund community environmental initiatives.
Years ago, I went to Cambrian College and studied Electronic & Instrumentation Technology. Following my studies I chose to pursue a career in sales rather than work at a nuclear power facility with most of my classmates. My Mom has had cancer twice, So I suppose I felt that a career of being exposed to radiation was not for me. I went on to sell retail energy, fixed prices on natural gas. I saw the income potential with that business and it opened my eyes to great possibilities.
In 2007 however the price of gas was very unstable and the fixed rates made a drastic hike, I did not believe in the new rates being offered by energy supplies, I felt the prices would come down from their spike and that consumers that had signed these contracts would lose money, I was right the rates did come back down and it was not a beneficial rate for the consumer. But I left that job and went west to experience something new.
During my years of selling fixed price contracts, I had people tell me time and again that they did not want to lock in to a rate, but they wanted to reduce their consumption, heat pump, tankless water heater, Possibly even put up solar panels.
That always stuck with me.
Consumers were very interested in reducing their consumption.
In Kelowna B.C. I worked for Ledcor Construction for two years, they are a General Contractor and the second biggest construction company in Canada. I was quickly promoted to site safety supervisor and lead hand. I worked on a number of projects with Ledcor and gained much experience, but I just did not see a great future for myself with Ledcor. Not a bad future, but not the one I desired.
From there I worked with a partner developing his asphalt paving & sealing company. We did quite well, we knocked doors in areas we had jobs from advertising and we generated a lot of business.
But all the while I was thinking about this company I wanted to develop, something of my own, something that would help reduce energy consumption and promote sustainability.
So when collecting the for the asphalt work, I test marketed my clients. I asked them if they would be interested in some of the products I now offer through Atom Energy, I can not remember one person that said no. So I told each of them that one day I would come back to discuss a solar system with them, once the province opened the market for feed in tariff, some people even asked me if they could make more money per square foot with solar than with apples, well the answer is yes but I would not recommend cutting down all these nice apple trees, possibly just a few. British Columbia has been talking about a feed in tariff program since before Ontario, but they still have not deregulated the market. When Ontario did open the market, I came home. I will one day go speak to each of those people again.
The name Atom Energy has always been in memory of my home town, the green Atom symbol is to represent green energy.
There are a number of projects I would like to bring to the Elliot Lake community, A solar panel manufacturing facility to reduce our equipment cost and bring jobs to the community. I believe strongly in Geo-Thermal and feel that our community could benefit from a this type of power station. Atom Energy also has the ability to offer waste to fuel co-generation facilities to communities that can support the required material. Atom Energy will also offer investment opportunities for community power projects.
Community street light projects are another service we offer, A number of communities have recently upgraded to LED, Smart eHID or even solar lamps in an effort to reduce energy consumption and annual costs. There are a number of energy consumption reducing projects that Atom Energy is working towards for long term financial and environmental sustainability across the province of Ontario.
My goal is to one day stand on top of a 5MW wind turbine that was built by Atom Energy for our community.
Presently we have completed just two solar projects, but have five to start on in the spring.
The direction the world is taking today is moving towards more renewable energy and sustainability. Atom Energy will open satellite offices in new markets and offer energy consultation services to new communities.
I have developed a unique marketing strategy through my many experiences in the sales field. I've come up with a strategy to offer investors that I think is quite lucrative. I have a plan for entering new markets, future projects and services I plan for Atom Energy to offer, I have a community development plan for each of the cities we will open an office in and I plan for Atom Energy to one day have a research and development department so that we can bring new emerging technologies to market.
It has not been easy trying to accomplish this from Elliot Lake with very little investment capital or assistance, competing with companies that have the ability to offer a solar system with no money down and the home owner gets just 10% of the generated revenue. I think that deal is a little too favorable for the contractor. Here in Elliot Lake, being as it is a retirement community, 20 year contracts with the OPA are somewhat of a tough sell. With the communities financial difficulties the City of Elliot Lake does not seem keen on investing in upgrades to its infrastructure and some residents seem concerned about making a 20 year commitment for a solar system. Part of my mission with Atom Energy is to bring small to medium manufacturing facilities to my home town and have the City of Elliot Lake as the center of national operations for Atom Energy. I believe that Elliot Lake could be energy independent and one day develop its own power utility.
There have been many delays in this new Feed In Tariff industry for renewable technologies, there is quite a bit of red tape. Many solar companies have been having difficulties of their own Atom Energy is not alone, for example a close neighbor of Elliot Lake, the City of Blind River and their projects, Originally they were to develop a solar field, but due to system constraints they have had to divide up the project and place many smaller systems on roof tops. Infrastructure upgrades will be needed in many areas as we move forward with the Feed In Tariff program. Sault Ste Marie seems to have really taken hold of renewable energy projects, they now have many large wind and solar power stations operating.
For me this is my mission, there will be generations that will follow us and it is my goal to leave this world more sustainable than it is now. With the effects of pollution and global warming increasingly apparent. We must work together to reduce our environmental impact for future generations.
There are many aspects of my development plan that I have not included in this letter, I imagine you can appreciate my reluctance to give every last detail. If you would like to know more about this plan I feel that it would be best for us to meet, shake hands and discuss the matter further.
I would like to once again thank you for your interest in Atom Energy and I certainly do look forward to speaking with any like minded individuals that might like to be a part of this endeavour.
